It's no secret that the EA SPORTS FIFA team have come under intense scrutiny since the release of FIFA 19. Many members throughout the FUT community have voiced their annoyance regarding the current state of gameplay and faulty servers.



In light of these recent criticisms, EA have made more of an effort to increase transparency regarding their strategies to patching these issues. A complete breakdown of this latest FIFA update patch can be found below, with extra details thanks to EA's latest Pitch Notes article. FIFA 19 title update 5 is now available on PC, and will arrive on Xbox One and PS4 soon!



Since the release of FIFA 19, many users have complained about how OP (overpowered) first time finesse shots can be, particularly in the FUT Champions Weekend League. As a result of this, the fifth FIFA patch update has nerfed and reduced the effectiveness of these types of shots.



Not only this, the Elástico skill move will now result in the ball remaining closer to the player. We have featured a video showing this below within the title update 5 patch notes for FIFA 19. Full details on FUT fixes and more can be found below…

Gameplay Fixes




    Adjustments to the effectiveness of first time finesse shots where the lateral ball velocity is very high.
      These kicks are now more likely to be impacted by error resulting in potentially less accuracy, ball speed and ball spin. The impact of a player's Finishing Attribute on lowering the chance for error for these kicks has also been reduced.
        Lateral Ball velocity, in this context, is the difference in degrees of the incoming angle of the ball to a player compared to its angle of exit from a player's foot on a shot.
          The angle of exit is not the target of the shot, but the angle by which the ball exits a player's foot. This change has the highest impact when the difference between the incoming angle and outgoing angle of the ball is 90 or 270 degrees, where 0 degrees is the angle of the ball leaving the player's foot from a shot. The impact of this change scales from lowest to highest along these angles, where 0 degrees is the angle of the ball leaving the player's foot from a shot:
            0 degrees (lowest) to 90 degrees (highest). 180 degrees (lowest) to 90 degrees (highest). 180 degrees (lowest) to 270 degrees (highest). 0 degrees (lowest) to 270 degrees (highest).




    Reduced the likelihood that a goal kick that is being aimed near a receiving player will go into open space. In a goal kick situation, defending centre backs will now be positioned closer together. In a goal kick situation, where the ball will be contested by both an attacking and defending player, the defending player will be more likely to move towards the landing location of the ball. The ball will now stay closer to the dribbling player when executing the Elastico skill move.



Addressed the following issues:




    When playing a match while locked to a player, during a corner kick situation, it was possible to knock the ball off of the corner kick spot by running towards the corner and pressing the D-Pad to execute a user controlled reaction. A situation where an attacking player was able to crash into the opponent's keeper, while they are holding the ball, and knock them into the net resulting in an own goal.
      This situation would now result in a foul and the goal being disallowed.




FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT)



Addressed the following issues:




    Viewing the Roles tab, in the Team Management screen, via the Pause Menu in a FUT Offline Mode, such as Squad Battles, will now show the impact of Chemistry on a player's attributes. Viewing the Roles tab, in the Team Management screen, during the pre-match flow in all FUT modes, will now properly display player attributes. Sometimes players were able to add both a normal Player Item and a Concept Player Item for the same player to a Squad Building Challenge Squad, which would lead to an error message.



Online Modes



Addressed the following issues:




    The post-match progression meter in Pro Clubs was not always displaying a players Overall Rating or progression accurately.
      This was a visual issue only as the proper Overall Rating was being used in gameplay and was displayed correctly in the Pro Clubs HUB.

Made the following changes:




    Added 5 new boots to the list of available boots when customising a player, such as in Pro Clubs or Player Career. Updated the 2D portraits for 26 players. Removed the 2D portraits from 25 players. Updates to a number of team kits, crests and banners.

    Sometimes, player models were appearing in the background after exiting a match. Sometimes, a white box would appear in the background after exiting a match. The full team names for some teams were incorrect in some languages and have been corrected. The three character abbreviation for some teams was incorrect in some languages and has been corrected. FIFA 19 features the UEFA club competitions for the first time, including the UEFA Champions League. The character Alex Hunter, who first appeared in FIFA 17 returns for the third and final installment of "The Journey", entitled, "The Journey: Champions".



Gameplay changes on FIFA 19 include the new "Active Touch System"— an overhaul of player control, "timed finishing"— where the kick button may be pressed a second time to determine the exact moment the ball is actually kicked, "50/50 battles"— a system for determining how likely a player will win loose balls, and "Dynamic Tactics"— which allows players to configure strategies, and switch between them in real-time during a match.

EA Sports has released a brand new FIFA 19 update version 1.05 which is the fifth update for the game since its launch. It is available to download now on PC.



This update has a rather small changelog if we compare if we the patch notes of all of the previous updates, but it makes many adjustments to the gameplay, balance, FIFA ultimate team and much more. You can get all of the information in the detail patch notes below.





This update is also likely going to come to the consoles soon, so if you are not playing on PC and it is best to wait for this update. In the meanwhile, you can just pass some time by checking out the patch notes and impressions of those who have the update installed on the PC.



Made the following changes:




    We have made some changes to reduce the effectiveness of defending by AI Teammates.
      In order to make the shot blocking of a defender that is being controlled by an AI Teammate less effective, we have reduced the distance that an AI Teammate defender will stretch to block a shot. In order to make the tackling of a defender that is being controlled by an AI Teammate less effective, we have reduced the distance that an AI Teammate defender will stretch when making a tackle.
        Here is what we mean by an “AI Teammate”.
          An AI Teammate is any player on the pitch that is not being controlled by a human, or is not the CPU AI Controlled Player. AI Teammates exist in the following circumstances:
            On a team with no human players.
              For example, the CPU-controlled team in Squad Battles.

            On a team with a human controlled player(s) that are not locked to specific players.
              For example, both teams in FUT Division Rivals.

            On a team with a human player(s) that are locked to specific players, that also has CPU teammates.
              For example, a Pro Clubs team with less than 11 human players.


          AI Teammates do not exist in the following circumstances:
            On a team with human players who are all locked to specific players.
              For example, a Pro Clubs team, with 11 human players.







    Increased the impact to fatigue of playing with defensive pressure.
      This change will have the biggest impact to fatigue when playing with Constant Pressure enabled in your active Game Plan or when playing with Team Press active. This change will have reduced impact to fatigue when playing with Pressure On Heavy Touch or Pressure After Possession Loss enabled in your active Game Plan.

    To make a well-timed tackle more effective, we have increased the tendency of the ball to travel further from the dribbler after the tackle, increasing the likelihood that the dribbler will lose possession of the ball. Reduced the number of first time passes that CPU AI Controlled players will make out of their defensive third of the pitch when playing on Legendary or Ultimate difficulty.
      A refresher on what we mean by “CPU AI Controlled players”.
        The CPU plays the game as you would, limited by the same input restrictions that a human player is. This means that the CPU team has an active player, just like you do, which we call the CPU AI-controlled player. A CPU AI-controlled player exists in the following circumstances:
          On a team with no human players.
            For example, the CPU-controlled team in Squad Battles.

          On a team with human players who are all locked to specific players, that also has CPU teammates.
            For example, a Pro Clubs team, with less than 11 human players, with no “ANY” player.


        A CPU AI-controlled player does not exist in the following circumstances:
          On a team with human players who are not locked to specific players.
            For example, a team in FUT Champions.







Addressed the following issues:




    Sometimes when an attacking player is trying to move towards a loose ball close to the goal, they would slow down and be unable to get to the ball effectively. If the keeper knocked the ball out of play during a penalty shootout, sometimes it would result in a throw-in being taken.



Made the following changes:




    We have continued to make changes to the Division Rivals pre-match flow in an effort to reduce the difficulty of some players finding a match.
      The ‘List Members’ button is no longer shown during the pre-match flow.

    Voice chat has been disabled in Division Rivals.



Addressed the following issues:




    Stability issue in FUT Champions Channel after watching a replay.
      As a result of this fix, the following issues that were resolved in a previous title update may occur again, and we are working to resolve them in a future title update when available.
        Sometimes, player models were appearing in the background after exiting a match. Sometimes, a white box would appear in the background after exiting a match.


    Entering and leaving FUT Champions Channel multiple times would result in no replays being available for viewing. The FUT Champions Points redemption window was incorrectly defaulting to ‘Redeem Entry Now’ and is now defaulting to ‘Later’. Items on your Transfer Target list were displaying the Bought For price from the previous Item’s owner.



Addressed the following issues:




    Sometimes receiving an error message about online stats reporting failing after completion of a Pro Clubs League or Drop-In Match.



Addressed the following issues:




    Player’s sometimes getting an ‘Unable To Retrieve Your Kick Off Name’s Data’ error message when trying to play a Kick Off match.



Made the following changes:




    Starheads:
      Added the assets for 18 new player starheads. Enabled legacy assets for 24 player starheads.

    Updated the 2D portraits for 2440 players. Updates to a number of team kits, crests and banners.

    The UEFA Champions League Honor Badge was showing after winning the tournament 4 times instead of 5. Corrected the home and away kit assignments for Wolfsberger AC. Sometimes the crowd would be seen waving a large linesman’s flag instead of a team flag.

FIFA 19 Update 1.06 Pitch Notes - Title Update 5: Gameplay Fixes, Shooting and Skill Moves Patch in FUT



FIFA 19 title update 5 PC is now available on December 6, 2018, with the FIFA 19 Version 1.06 pitch notes for PS4 and XBOX ONE console to follow at a later date. Hey FIFA fans,



The holiday season is approaching, and in the spirit of giving, we bring you yet another edition of the Pitch Notes, this time focused on FIFA 19 Title Update #5, available now for PC and targeted for release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the near future.



The two changes to in this title update that we want to focus on are a change to some first time finesse shots, and a change to the Elástico skill move.



We have seen the feedback coming from the community that the effectiveness of first time finesse shots was too high. In a previous title update, we had made adjustments to reduce the effectiveness of first time finesse shots where the ball was being received by the player from behind. In this title update, we continue to make adjustments to shooting, reducing the effectiveness of first time finesse shots where the lateral ball velocity is high.



To understand this change, we first need to talk about what we mean by 'lateral ball velocity'. In the context of this change, the lateral ball velocity is the difference in degrees between the incoming angle of the ball when it is being received by the player, and the angle of the ball leaving the player as they take a shot. It's important to note that the angle of the ball leaving the player is not the same as the target of the shot, as the ball can curl or swerve after it has left a player's foot from a shot.



So, as an example, assuming that the angle of the ball leaving a player's foot from a shot is 0 degrees, and the ball was coming into the player at 75 degrees, than the lateral ball velocity would be 75 degrees.



With that out of the way, let's dig into the actual change.



A first time finesse shot, with a high lateral ball velocity, is now more likely to be impacted by error, resulting in potentially less accuracy, ball speed and ball spin. In addition, the impact that a player's Finishing Attribute will have on reducing the chance of error for these shots has also been reduced.



While this change can affect all first time finesse shots, the change is most impactful when lateral ball velocity is 90 or 270 degrees, or essentially when the ball is coming into the player directly to the left or right of where it is going to leave their foot. The full range of impact for this change is:



■ Lateral Ball Velocity of 0 degrees (lowest impact) to 90 degrees (highest impact).



■ Lateral Ball Velocity of 180 degrees (lowest) to 90 degrees (highest).



■ Lateral Ball Velocity of 180 degrees (lowest) to 270 degrees (highest).



■ Lateral Ball Velocity of 0 degrees (lowest) to 270 degrees (highest).



Below is a visual representation of the above, where 0 degrees is the point by which the ball is leaving the foot of the player taking the shot.



To better illustrate how this change plays out in game, here are examples of 100 shots being taken by Eden Hazard, where the lateral ball velocity was 86.25 degrees. The blue lines show shots that would have been on the net, which could end up as saves by the keeper or could end up being goals, while the red lines show shots that would have been off target.

After Title Update:



The feedback from the community was, that when executing the Elastico Skill Move, the ball was travelling too far away from the dribbling player. We have adjusted the distance that the ball moves away from the player when executing this move to keep it closer to the dribbling player.



Below you can see a video comparison of a 5 star skilled player performing the Elastico Skill Move before and after the title update. After the title update, the ball stays much closer to the dribbling player.

      This change will have the biggest impact to fatigue when playing with Constant Pressure enabled in your active Game Plan or when playing with Team Press active. This change will have reduced impact to fatigue when playing with Pressure On Heavy Touch or Pressure After Possession Loss enabled in your active Game Plan.

    To make a well-timed tackle more effective, we have increased the tendency of the ball to travel further from the dribbler after the tackle, increasing the likelihood that the dribbler will lose possession of the ball. Fifa 19 update1.05 reduced the number of first time passes that CPU AI Controlled players will make out of their defensive third of the pitch when playing on Legendary or Ultimate difficulty.

    Sometimes when an attacking player is trying to move towards a loose ball close to the goal, they would slow down and be unable to get to the ball effectively. If the keeper knocked the ball out of play during a penalty shootout, sometimes it would result in a throw-in being taken.

    We have continued to make changes to the Division Rivals pre-match flow in an effort to reduce the difficulty of some players finding a match.
